Hawaii wedding photographer, Stephen Ludwig's personal collection of recent photography and fine art works.
Hello! Welcome to my blog, I’m Stephen Ludwig. Feel free to take the time to look around at my wedding photography and other personal work I have posted. Just to let you know a little bit about myself, I currently live in Hawaii on the sunny island of Oahu. It’s a great place to live and an even better one to work on. I have been capturing people’s memories for the last seven years as a professional wedding photographer and have been a professional artist/photographer for the last ten. I can’t tell you how fortunate I feel being able to work with so many great, happy, and in love people in one of the world’s most beautiful places.
I was born in Hawaii. Because my father was in the military, I went on to live in five different states (Maine, Alaska, California, Wisconsin, and Ohio) until I ended up right back here in Hawaii. I’m not sure if it was growing up in so many unique places or the countless cross country road trips my parents would drag us along on but I grew up loving to see new places and meeting new people. I just can never get enough! Lucky for me, I don’t think I will see it all or meet them all no matter how much I try.
Since I was a child, I have always been interested in art. My older brother Geoff (one of my favorite artists) and I would stay up drawing and working on projects all night. However, my interest in photography didn’t spark until my family moved back to Hawaii when I was still in High School. My previous home, Wisconsin, was a bit more on the cold side. So during the cold winter months I spent much of my time indoors painting and drawing. With zero degree wind chill and more slush than snow who wants to be outside? After moving to Hawaii again I just couldn’t stay inside anymore, I needed to get out! So that’s how it all started.
Since then, I spent much of my time pursuing my favorite pastime…. ART. Nothing was too boring for my camera. I took it everywhere. Throughout high school my supportive art teachers encouraged me to pursue my craft and enroll in local and national art competitions. My senior year I held my first professional art show and was honored with numerous awards including the prestigious National Scholastic Pinnacle Award (Best of Show) in photography. While in college pursuing my Bachelor in Fine Arts degree I discovered many new outlets including ceramics, sculpture, graphic design, and web design. Each new artform helped me redefine the way I looked at my photography. At the same time I was fortunate enough to have several wedding photographers let me shadow them and learn the trade. It was a great opportunity. I loved working with so many happy people and enjoyed the fast paced nature of the trade. But, most rewarding of all, the reaction of my clients when they received their photos. From then on I knew it was the right job for me and I have been doing it ever since.

What better way to spend the day than wandering around and exploring. I have been glued to my computer editing photos so much lately that I thought I might start going cross eyed. With that said it was time for a well deserved outing. What better place than in our own backyard…Waikiki, so off Litton and I went on a mini vacation and played tourists for the day. Besides sitting by the beach for the day and trying to get a little color, we made it a point to snap some shots along the way and do a little exploring. Who knew there were so many cool things to photograph just a short walk away from our own home? By far the best find of the day had to be the giant wave we stumbled upon in the heart of Waikiki. There was no one was around so we just played around taking ridiculous photos of each other. It was great getting out of my “cave” for the day. We have to do this again, I hope you enjoy all of the new pictures!

I had a little extra time after a wedding shoot that I did at the Hawaii 50th State Fair. We were finished just before it was dark. Night photography being one of my favorites things to do, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get some fun carnival action shots. The colors are always great at this time of day and there are so many unique objects to photograph. Enjoy!

This year we were lucky enough to be able to stay at Yosemite Valley for a few days after Christmas. It was a real treat because it had just snowed the day before we arrived and the whole valley was covered in powder. I used to live where it snowed, however, nothing compared to how beautiful Yosemite Valley is during winter. Spectacular! We had a mini family reunion and had a chance to brush up on our cross country skiing skills. It was great. I managed to take quite a few photos, there was a freak out moment when all of my lenses started getting condensation inside them and I couldn’t see anything. I forgot this happens in the cold, it eventually went away and life was good again. Here are some of the shots, I hope you like them.
